We spotted a swarm of bees while cleaning the rain gutters in July. According to the expert, nearly 100,000 bees, and one unlucky creature, had taken sanctuary in the 2 front walls of the church–for a decade.
Honey bee hives are precious, especially as they have been failing at an alarming rate over the past decade. Saving the hive requires capturing a cluster of bees along with the queen bee, and moving it at least three miles away. Beekeeper Bill Kauffman (www.itsallbetter.com) expertly found and removed the hive from the two walls, and repaired the clapboards.
Post script, and the best part: The queen survived and is generating new bees in her new safe hive! That’s proper preservation. Thanks Bill!
